Mad March Hare, the award-winning Irish Poitín from Intrepid Spirits, has unveiled a new bottle design, embracing the resilience and Celtic character of the Irish hare. This iconic but endangered native has inhabited the Irish countryside since the last ice age, adapting and fighting to survive, much like poitín makers themselves.
“The imagery of the hare has always been intrinsically linked to poitín makers” remarked John Ralph, CEO and creator of Mad March Hare. He continued, “Like the elusive hare, poitín makers have been relentlessly pursued, but rarely captured. They are bold in their conquests, yet able to seamlessly disappear when danger is near.”
Poitín took hundreds of years to finally become legalised, and since 1997 has gone from a dusty bottle found at the back of most Irish cupboards to a premium, highly awarded product that bartenders all over the world love to experiment with. An authentic, exciting, craft spirit, today Irish Poitín is accorded GI status and can only be made only on the island of Ireland. Mad March Hare uses only the finest, locally sourced malted barley and is triple distilled in small copper pot stills in West Cork. Bottled at 40%, this results in a drink that is full of character and exceptionally smooth.
In celebration of their new bottle design, this summer, Mad March Hare Poitín has teamed up with Poachers premium Irish mixers and Off the Cuffe bitters, two Irish brands also committed to local native ingredients, to launch the Ultimate Irish Mule kit.
Available exclusively from Irish Drinks Shop this summer, the Ultimate Irish Mule Kit includes a bottle of Mad March Hare Irish Poitín (700ml), four bottles of Poachers Ginger Beer with Irish Chili (200ml), and a bottle of small batch aromatic Hedgerow Bitters (50ml), from Dublin based Off the Cuffe Bitters. The Ultimate Irish Mule kit is priced at €36, with shipping nationwide.
Mad March Hare has also committed to donating a percentage of proceeds from the sale of the Ultimate Irish Mule kit to Irish Wildlife Trust, whose work is instrumental in ensuring the protection of the native Irish Hare in the wild.
