2024 General Election on the table according to bookies

Bookmaker Ladbrokes has been forced to shorten the odds on a 2024 General Election, as Simon Harris becomes Ireland’s new Taoiseach.

Following overnight movement in the market ahead of his election, leading bookmakers Ladbrokes have been forced to shorten the odds to 10/11 that we will go to the polls for a General Election this year.

With the need for an election before March 2025, it is 5/6 that Harris waits until the New Year to call it.

Meanwhile, outgoing Taoiseach Leo Varadkar admitted he has received interesting offers for his future, and 16/1 says he will be the next President of Ireland.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Calls for a General Election have been common ground since Leo Varadkar announced he was to step down, and in the days leading up to Simon Harris officially replacing him, we have seen an increase in support for a 2024 election. And if odds are to be believed, Varadkar might be running a different political campaign in the not so distant future ”.
