Get ready for a feast of flavour, stories, and inspiration as social enterprise GIY (Grow-It-Yourself) joins forces with Blasta Books to launch an exciting new Supper Book Club series at GROW HQ, GIY’s award-winning café and organic garden in the heart of Waterford City. This unique event series will kick off on Friday, 27th June with Orla McAndrew, who will bring her book Larder to life through a delicious dinner and engaging storytelling.
The event series brings together GIY’s mission to spark a global movement of food growers with Blasta Books’ vision to celebrate diverse food voices through accessible, beautifully designed cookbooks. Each event spotlights one of Blasta’s celebrated authors, giving guests the chance to enjoy dishes from their books, hear the personal stories behind the recipes, and engage with the creators in an intimate, welcoming setting.
The series was launched by GROW HQ’s new Campus Director Ali Honour, whose passion for sustainable food systems is bringing new vibrancy to the venue: “The Blasta Supper Book Club is about more than just good food and books — it’s about inspiring people to connect with where their food comes from. At GIY, we believe that growing, cooking, and eating sustainably can transform lives and communities. This series brings people together to explore those ideas in a really accessible and delicious way. It’s also about making food exciting — drawing on global culinary influences to show that sustainable eating can be bold, vibrant, and full of flavour.”
From Filipino-Irish fusion to Mexican traditions and beyond, the series showcases authors who are redefining the Irish food landscape, one plate at a time:

27th June - Orla McAndrew will serve up family favourites, from Larder, that are big on flavour and low on faff

12th July - Conor Spacey champions sustainable, zero-waste cooking through recipes from Wasted

23rd July - Lily Ramirez-Foran brings bold Mexican flavours from Tacos to the table

13th September - Pamela Neumann and Facundo Rodulfo share their vibrant food philosophy through dishes from Tango

4th October - Caitlin Ruth will take attendees on a culinary adventure through pickles, ferments, and other tangy delights from Funky
Date TBC - Richie Castillo and Alex O’Neill will bring their book Masarap to life through a knockout mix of Filipino flavours and Irish ingredients
