Drew Mayville Visits Ireland in Celebration of National Bourbon Day

Excitement filled the room last night as Master Blender at Sazerac, Drew Mayville was host to a private Pappy Van Winkle tasting in the Westbury Hotel.

This exclusive evening led by Mayville, was an immersive experience for guests as they soaked up the history and culture of the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Guests sampled a selection of the brand’s award-winning whiskeys, including the very rare, limited edition bourbon, Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 23 Year. Only the most careful and expensive distilling method is used to create a whiskey as special as this one. Each barrel ages for 23 years and is carefully selected from the heart of the warehouse.

Guests who were lucky enough to acquire a ticket for this much sought after event were treated to a three hour guided tasting experience in The Westbury’s cocktail bar, The Sidecar. As individually paired canapes were dispersed throughout the room, guests were presented with five of Pappy Van Winkle’s exceptional bourbon selections. Known for both its quality and its rarity, the Pappy Van Winkle collection is made with a higher percentage of wheat than most bourbons, creating a spicy-sweet blend of nutty oak, with notes of honeyed citrus, maple, and vanilla.

Drew Mayville shared his knowledge and passion for the distilling process at the Buffalo Trace Distillery while guests listened attentively, soaking up the atmosphere of the room. A titan of American Whiskey with over 40 years experience with some of the largest companies in the alcohol industry, Drew has been the Master Blender of Sazerac’s award-winning products since he joined its Buffalo Trace Distillery in 2004. One of the oldest distilleries in the world, the Buffalo Trace Distillery has been making bourbon for over 200 years. The dedication to the craft is what makes it the world's most awarded distillery. The Distillery has won 35 distillery titles since 2000 from such notable publications as Whisky Magazine, Whisky Advocate Magazine and Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Laura Scott, Brand Manager with Hi-Spirits Ireland, stated, “We are delighted that Drew made the trip to Ireland to celebrate National Bourbon Day with us. Listening to him talk about the Buffalo Trace Distillery and delve into his depth of knowledge on the industry is inspiring. His passion is not only to make the finest spirits, but also to educate guests and whiskey enthusiasts on this work” To learn more about The Buffalo Trace Distillery visit www.buffalotracedistillery.com
