‘Fairytale of New York’ now favourite for Christmas number one in Ireland

Following yesterday’s sad news that The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan has passed away, fans are rushing to pay tribute to the iconic musician with bookies reporting that they have been inundated with support for the festive hit to top the charts this year.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: "The bells will no doubt be ringing out for Shane MacGowan this year as fans rush to pay tribute to the iconic Irish musician. If this latest surge in support is anything to go by, ‘Fairytale of New York’ looks certain to be top of the charts come December 25th."
