World Heart Day is on September 29th and FLYEfit, Ireland’s premier gym chain, is raising awareness about the importance of keeping your heart healthy and the life changing benefits of regular exercise for reducing the risk of heart disease and strokes. To mark World Heart Day, FLYEfit will host a special Heated Polar Class on September 27th followed by a calming yoga session at their Macken Street location, helping to emphasise the importance of both high and low intensity heart work.

According to the Irish Heart Foundation, nearly 9,000 people in Ireland die from cardiovascular disease every year, even though 80% of premature cases are preventable through lifestyle changes such as healthy eating and exercise. Research from the HSE also shows that Heart Failure (HF) is one of the major chronic diseases in Ireland today. It is estimated that up to 2% of the adult population in developed countries suffers from heart failure.

In response, FLYEfit is encouraging people across Ireland to get active and take simple steps to protect their heart health. The Irish Heart Foundation recommends eight proven ways to maintain a healthy heart including being active, eating well, managing blood pressure, reducing stress, quitting smoking and cutting down on alcohol. The HSE also states that physical activity will make the heart and blood circulatory system more efficient by keeping the blood pressure at a healthy level and lowering cholesterol level.

Seán Galligan, Manager of FLYEfit Macken Street, explains heated polar classes stating “The class is a high intensity workout in a heated chamber set at 30°C where participants wear polar heart rate monitors that display live results on a screen, motivating them to push harder and even compete with friends. Using a combination of Concept Bikes, Row and Ski Ergs and Assault Fitness Bikes, the session is designed to boost endurance, fitness and awareness of heart health”.

Seán also commented Taking care of your heart is one of the most important aspects of health and fitness. The heart is the engine of the body, and the polar classes are the perfect way to fine tune that engine by being able to see the work being done in a class and also seeing the improvements in heart health and performance across multiple classes”.
