Foxrock Village, Steeped in History and Plenty of New Faces, Something for Everyone to Enjoy!

Foxrock, a leafy village located in South Dublin, is fast becoming a lively entertainment hub with it's range of exquisite eateries, shops and services.

Close to J15 on the M50 and just off the N11 with its own village car park, if you are looking for the perfect location for a Day out this Autumn the wide and eclectic variety of restaurants, cafes, shops, history and attractions, Foxrock has something to keep everyone entertained.

Rich History

With it's winding avenues and unique architectural buildings, it’s not hard to see how the leafy green village has served as literary inspiration in a number of different ways throughout the years. Born and raised in Foxrock, Samuel Beckett, one of the world’s greatest writers of the 20th century and a Nobel Laureate of Literature, drew inspiration from the local scenery and residents who are referenced in many of his works. ‘The pretty little wayside station’ he mentions in his play All that Fall refers to Foxrock Station on the Harcourt Railway line which ran from Dublin’s Harcourt Street to Bray from the 1850’s till 1959. The station is no longer there but the railway line tracks can still be seen today running along one side of the village car park, be sure to take a look after you have pulled into a spot!

In more recent years, Foxrock village has served as the backdrop for Paul Howard’s phenomenally successful literary creation, Ross O’Carroll Kelly. A series of books, sell out play runs and a weekly full-page article in the Irish Times Weekend Magazine have seen the satirical Foxrock man become a feature of daily life in Dublin.

For many of today’s teenagers and children, a phone box is not something they would have probably ever used and is a rarity to see. One of the last remaining, Foxrock Village’s phone box is also the oldest in the country and was installed in 1926.
