Getaways Ireland unveiled its fresh new look at a breakfast briefing at the Marlin Hotel in Dublin city centre last week. An invited audience of travel enthusiasts heard from leading tourism industry professionals, who highlighted a growing trend for experience-rich staycations, whether for a weekend, a week or longer.

No matter the distance, every trip should make lasting memories, and reward your investment, of your time and money, and Getaways Ireland is the best site to start your search.

After nearly 3 decades of delighting over two million satisfied SuperValu shoppers with great value breaks, the refreshed Getaways Ireland is now available to everyone, and has hit the ground running, bringing together everything Irish travellers value most, from transparent pricing, cashback on every booking and exclusive hotel packages to genuine value and a simpler way to book. The re-imagined programme reflects how people plan travel today, based on a well-earned reputation for service and trust.

The relaunch comes at a time when Irish travel behaviour is shifting away from impulse driven trips and complex itineraries, and towards shorter breaks that deliver real value and fit more naturally into everyday life.

Teresa Carroll, Managing Director of Getaways Ireland, said “What we’re seeing is that Irish travellers aren’t travelling less, they’re travelling more intentionally. Whether it’s families looking for flexibility, couples seeking culture, or locals holidaying closer to home, value, trust and experience now matter more than distance.”

Travel in 2026 is increasingly about how a trip makes people feel rather than how far people go. Recent research from Getaways Ireland shows that 72% of travellers want their time away to focus on meaningful experiences rather than ticking off destinations, a shift clearly reflected in Irish booking behaviour. Short breaks, city stays and nearby getaways continue to outperform longer and more complex trips.

Irish travellers are also embracing a slower, more immersive approach to travel. Rather than trying to see everything, people are choosing one base and exploring it more deeply, particularly in coastal and heritage destinations. Planning is becoming experience led rather than destination led, as travellers look to feel a place rather than rush through it.

The rise in micro-escapes also signifies the evolution of the classic 2 night escape. Teresa commented "People are booking later, staying closer to home, and caring less about ticking boxes and more about how different the break feels from everyday life. It’s not about squeezing everything in. It’s about changing the pace, even briefly - one great meal, one great sleep, one change of scenery."

Younger travellers in particular are driving much of the growth in short breaks. Nearly 60% of Gen Z and Millennials took multiple trips last year, with two thirds planning to increase their travel spend in 2026. In Ireland, this group is highly engaged but less brand loyal, prioritising value, flexibility and clear benefits such as cashback or transparent pricing when choosing where to book.

Teresa Carroll added “Younger Irish travellers aren’t travelling less, they’re travelling smarter.”

Across all age groups, Irish travel in 2026 is being shaped by intention rather than impulse. People want meaningful experiences, clear value and trips that fit real life, whether that means a one-night micro escape, a food led break or a slower stay closer to home. Irish travellers are not looking for more, they are looking for better.

The refreshed Getaways Ireland brand reflects this shift, offering cashback on every booking, member incentives, exclusive hotel packages, clear pricing with no hidden extras and Irish based customer support.
