German wine brand Black Tower arrived into Ireland in the mid ‘80s when the country was in the midst of neon legwarmers and fondue sets and this month relaunches with a bold new label for Black Tower Fruity White, Silvaner Pinot Grigio and Riesling wines. These fabulous and refreshing new wine bottles are available in Dunnes, Tesco and Supervalu stores nationwide (RRP €8).

From its mysterious black bottle that caused a buzz when it hit the shops during the era of the walkman, Madonna and huge shoulder pads, Black Tower has this year had a glow-up. Reflecting the much-loved status of this special German wine brand, the modified logo flaunts an adorable love heart, the bottle cap cheerfully welcomes fans with a ‘good to see you’ message and a playful ‘hi’ smiley face with a heart as the dot above the “i”. Personalised and approachable descriptions such as ‘Deliciously juicy, fruity & simple’, ‘enjoyable!’ and ‘pleasurable!’ reflect the ever-present, emotional appeal of these wines. In addition, the quality of these value-for-money wines are highlighted with a ‘heritage brand’ and a ‘winemakers since 1920’ quality assurance mark.
With a playful mix of freshness and just the right touch of sweetness, Black Tower Fruity White is the perfect companion for life’s most relaxed and joy filled moments. Whether it’s a sofa session, garden gossiping, spontaneous picnics in the park, a night in front of the TV or a few hours on a comfy chair with a great book, these wines are uniquely produced to add a little flavour to these every day pleasures.
In a survey conducted by Black Tower, over 50% of people enjoy sipping wine whilst lounging on the sofa in front of the television. From binge watching the latest drama of The White Lotus to revisiting a feel good ‘80s classic such as Friends, Black Tower wine is the perfect companion for all. With television being a cornerstone of social life in the ‘80s (Seinfeld, Dynasty, Dallas, Knight Rider – anyone?), Black Tower expresses a note of nostalgia with a modern twist and celebrates sofa socialisation from this iconic decade through its relaunch.
To continue in its celebration of all things wine, over the past four months Black Tower has been supporting Irish actress Norma Sheahan’s hilarious one woman show aptly named ‘It’s Wine O’Clock’ by supplying bottles of Black Tower for the on-stage drinks trolley that is part of the show and often has attendees availing of a glass! Norma said, “I continue to be amazed at the brand recognition for Black Tower around the country. It is still a brand very much loved and without doubt I have had plenty of sofa sessions over the years sharing a bottle with a friend”.

Black Tower Fruity White (75cl): Wonderfully drinkable and stylish, this wine is ideal for any day of the week. Bursting with notes of passion fruit and peach and a hint of honey sweetness, its lively character makes it a perfect match for a Saturday night Chinese takeout or simply sipping on its own. Serve chilled for a crisp and zingy experience.
