St Vincent’s Castleknock College Appoint Elaine Kelly as Principal

Ms Elaine Kelly, a native of Clontarf, was recently appointed as Principal of St Vincent’s Castleknock College becoming the first woman to lead the 770 all boys school in its one hundred and ninety year history. Elaine has worked as a teacher and school leader across various educational settings, both single sex and co-educational settings, including DEIS, voluntary and fee charging sectors/schools.
Elaine’s leadership at St. Vincent’s Castleknock College is centred on fostering a vibrant learning community deeply rooted in its Christian, Catholic, and Vincentian ethos. Her personal educational vision is one of service to both staff and students, guided by a commitment to exceptional standards and excellence in teaching and learning. She is dedicated to the holistic growth of each student - nurturing their intellectual, academic, physical, spiritual, moral, and affective development - all enriched by the unique and historical setting of the 70-acre Castleknock College campus and parkland.

Elaine said of her recent appointment “I am very honoured to be the first female principal of a school that has given so much to its community and its students – past and present. I recognise the significance of this decision made by the school’s Board of Management. I feel truly privileged to work with such a talented and dedicated team of over 100 teachers and staff, having the opportunity to share in the daily life and energy of our students - Castleknock College is a very special place”.
St. Vincent’s Castleknock College is a leading all boys secondary school with 770 day pupils. Over its long history, the College has educated generations of young men who have gone on to make significant contributions to Irish life - in law, business, sport, music, and the arts. Distinguished past pupils include former Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave, Senior Counsel Bill Shipsey as well as acclaimed novelist, playwright, and screenwriter Eugene McCabe. The College also counts among its alumni Fulbright Scholar and composer Ciarán Hope, and former Irish rugby internationals Devin Toner and Marty Moore. Many of Ireland’s notable business families have entrusted their sons’ education to Castleknock College, continuing a proud tradition of excellence, leadership, and service.
