Sunday at the Escape: A New Family-Friendly Wood-fired Sunday Menu at The Wicklow Escape

Even with our unpredictable weather Irish people love to dine outdoors during the summer, and The Wicklow Escape has come up with the perfect solution. The cosy, foodie lodge in Donard, Co. Wicklow has just launched a brand new Sunday experience ‘Sunday at the Escape’. Featuring a menu of delicious wood-fired dishes and great family-friendly options to be enjoyed on the covered outdoor pavilion accompanied by live music, casual al fresco dining never tasted, or sounded, so good!

‘Sunday at the Escape’ commenced on Sunday 3rd July from 1pm-5pm and will run weekly throughout July, August and September. With capacity for up to 50 diners, the team at The Wicklow Escape have put together a menu featuring wood-fired pizza, Waygu burgers, free-range smoked chicken and pulled pork tacos. Vegan and vegetarian diners are catered to, as are children and those with special dietary requirements, making it the ideal spot for a casual bite to eat after a day out in the beautiful Wicklow countryside.

Reservations are essential and to support a sustainable ethos diners must pre-book their food when reserving their table. This ensures that the venue only orders the produce required and contributes to zero waste.  Booking facility and the full menu can be accessed here: The Wicklow Escape | Click & Collection (clickandcollection.com)

The menu has been prepared by chef Fransico Ramirez Murga who gained lots of experience cooking over fire using fresh bountiful ingredients growing up in Mexico.

Lisa Wilkinson, founder of The Wicklow Escape, comments: “We pride ourselves on using farm-to-table ingredients, like fresh leafy produce from Castleruddery Organic Farm and Ridgeway Wagyu Beef, and it’s really important to me to carry that through to our ‘Sunday at the Escape’ menu. This hyper local sourcing combined with the fresh produce available from our own gardens creates a short but sweet menu of tasty fare, ideal for friends or families on a day out, or hikers seeking a hearty feed post-climb! And with our pre-ordering feature online we’re delighted to strongly promote a sustainable ethos.”

The Wicklow Escape has also teamed up with local expert hiking guide Damien Kennedy who offers guided hikes of Lugnaquilla at €30 per person. Commencing at 10am and taking approx. 6.5 hours hikes can be booked separately via Facebook and hikers can reserve their table at ‘Sunday at the Escape’ for afterwards.

The Wicklow Escape is located at Ballinclea, Donard, Co. Wicklow, approx. 1 hour from Dublin. It is included in the 2022 edition of the prestigious Ireland’s Blue Book and offer exclusive private hire as well as tailored B&B packages throughout the year. Follow the Wicklow Escape on Instagram and Facebook for updates.
