Uachtar Roasting: Ireland’s Busiest Ice Cream Day Revealed

Ireland has been keeping cool one cone at a time, with new data from Moo’d Ice Cream revealing that Sunday, 24th May was the biggest ice cream sales day of 2026 so far. This day marked the beginning of a record-breaking heatwave in Ireland, as temperatures climbed to 30 degrees later that week. Sales of Moo’d ice cream across more than 400 Centra and SuperValu stores were 92% higher during the first week of the heatwave than during an average week.

The data also reveals that Cork took the crown as Ireland’s ice cream capital in 2025, with the highest total sales in the country and is leading again this year. Dublin is in second place, followed by Kerry in third.

The figures have also helped settle one of Ireland’s great summer debates: the classic 99 cone versus the Whirlie, which comes with a variety of delicious toppings and sauces. The 99 remains Ireland’s most popular choice, with over 16,000 99s sold on the hottest day of the year to date (26 June 2026), which is 118% higher than on an average day. However, the Moo’d Whirlie is whipping up competition, with 6,000 sold on the same day, marking a 69% increase compared with an average day.

The data also reveals that Sunday is officially Ireland’s busiest day of the week for ice cream. In 2025, Sunday sales were 61% busier than Mondays, which was Moo’d’s quietest day of the week. So far in 2026, Sunday sales are 83% higher than on Thursday, which has emerged as the new quietest day.
