ODEON Cinemas is celebrating the continued success of its IMAX experience in Ireland, with almost 20,000 film fans having already chosen to experience Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster The Odyssey in IMAX at ODEON Blanchardstown.

As one of just two cinemas in Ireland offering an IMAX experience, ODEON Blanchardstown has recorded more than 80% occupancy for The Odyssey in IMAX since its release, making it one of ODEON’s strongest performing cinemas for IMAX occupancy.

Demand for The Odyssey has also been high across ODEON’s iSense format at Blanchardstown, achieving approximately 60% occupancy when screened in this premium format.

The figures highlight the continued appetite among Irish audiences for premium cinema experiences, particularly when it comes to major blockbuster releases created for the big screen.

The strong performance of The Odyssey across ODEON’s premium formats demonstrates the appeal of the enhanced cinema experience, with IMAX and iSense giving audiences the opportunity to experience major releases as they were intended to be seen, on the biggest screens and with enhanced sound and picture quality.

The strong performance at ODEON Blanchardstown comes as The Odyssey continues to make an impact across the Irish cinema landscape. The film took almost €1 million at the Irish box office during its opening weekend, with particularly strong demand reported for IMAX and other premium screenings.

Javier Perez, Marketing Co-ordinator at ODEON Cinemas ROI and NI, said “The performance of The Odyssey at ODEON Blanchardstown is a fantastic demonstration of the appetite that exists among Irish audiences for premium cinema experiences. With almost 20,000 guests choosing to see the film in IMAX, it’s clear that audiences are seeking out films that deliver something truly spectacular on the big screen. We’re delighted to see this level of demand for IMAX and our premium formats, and it’s a great reflection of the continued appeal of the cinema experience”.

The success of The Odyssey comes against a backdrop of a resilient cinema market across Ireland. According to the Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO), 10.69 million cinema tickets were sold in Ireland in 2025, highlighting the continued importance of major blockbuster releases in bringing audiences to the big screen.

With major theatrical releases continuing to attract audiences, the performance of The Odyssey demonstrates the important role premium formats such as IMAX and iSense play in giving audiences an experience they cannot replicate at home.
