Haircare, iPads, Portable Chargers & VR sell big this Black Friday week at Currys

On one of the biggest shopping days of the year, Ireland’s leading electrical retailer, Currys has seen consumers looking to premium products with a focus on hair & beauty, VR, and home entertainment items.

Unlike the last two years, where the focus was largely online, this year has seen people shopping in store in their droves. Shoppers are keen to get hands on with the tech or speak to staff to make sure they are making the right purchasing decision.

Following the start of the Black Tag Sale on 26th October, Currys.ie saw the highest traffic and orders on Wednesday, 23rd November & Thursday, 24th November and this is expected to peak today, Black Friday. This has shown that while Black Friday deals have become more of an event spread out over a few weeks, customers’ interest is still peaked on Black Friday and the few days before it.

With massive savings off all of the top brands, it’s no surprise customers grabbed the chance to pick up some great technology at bargain prices. Apple iPad sales have grown by over 400% compared to last year with this growth primarily driven by the iPad 10.2 (2021) 9th, with Currys offering the best deal on the market priced at €369. This amazing value has driven the growth!

With a number of new product launches and the return of a social life and in particular, Christmas party season, hair & beauty product sales have surged. The category has grown 152% YoY with the major drivers being the Dyson Airwrap Complete Long Special Edition Gift Set Hair Multi-Styler - Vinca Blue & Rose €579, the brand-new Shark Flexstyle 5 in 1 Hair Styler, €359.99, & the TRESEMME Salon Smooth Hair Dryer Set €29.99.

Gaming consoles are popular as ever with Virtual Reality, with the META Quest 2 VR 128 GB Gaming Headset returning to the top sellers list this year. This year’s demand has been fuelled by the bundle offer running where customers get Resident Evil 4 game with the Quest 2 for just €399.

The return to traveling abroad this year saw Mobile Accessories sales surge by 84% compared to last year. One of the top sellers has been the BELKIN 10000 mAh Portable Power Bank in blue, for €19.99. Perfect for taking on long train journeys or long haul flights.

The insights and trends from Currys have also shown an upsurge in interest for home entertainment products. Customers browsing large screen TVs on currys.ie is up 75% on last year, with many consumers looking to upgrade their televisions for the World Cup.

Speaking about consumer trends during this year’s Black Tag sale at Currys, Jaimie Cantwell, Head of Commercial at Currys Ireland said:

“We’ve seen some interesting customer shopping trends and behaviour this Black Friday Season. The cost-of-living crisis is still a concern for shoppers. As expected, tech that’s cheaper to run like air fryers is still flying off shelves. However, we have been surprised to see premium items such as gaming, hair care and large screen TVs dominate our top sellers list. This is likely due to customers focusing on using Black Friday deals to sort Christmas gifting early instead of simply eliminating all non-essential tech from their wish list.

We’ve also been delighted to see the shift back towards shopping Black Friday deals in store. For many customers, Black Friday is one of the first chances to enjoy the Christmas shopping buzz, especially as many have stayed away from physical stores over the previous two years."

As part of the Black Tag Sale, Currys has thousands of offers across technology, entertainment, domestic appliances and more. All offers are available in store and online at www.currys.ie
