Killowen Distillery has announced the release of Ériu Irish Poitín, a special limited-edition spirit inspired by Irish mythology, traditional distilling methods, and the rugged landscape of the Mourne Mountains.

Named after Ériu, the ancient Irish goddess believed to have given Ireland its name, the new release aims to capture the spirit of old-world poitín while showcasing the bold innovation that has made Killowen Distillery one of Ireland’s most respected independent producers.

Distilled using a mash bill of 30% oats, 30% rye, and 40% heavily peated malt, Ériu delivers rich cereal notes layered with earthy spice and a subtle smoky character. The spirit was then rested for three weeks in Killowen rum casks, adding soft sweetness, fruit notes, and gentle warmth before bottling at a powerful 55% ABV.

The release continues Killowen’s hands-on, traditional approach to distilling, with the spirit produced using direct flame-fired stills - a method rarely seen in modern distillation.

Adding to the exclusivity, the labels for Ériu were personally signed and numbered by renowned Irish distiller Patrick “Paddy” Killowen, with only 150 bottles being made available worldwide.

This feels like a release made for true poitín fans,” the distillery said in its launch announcement. “It’s bold, textured, smoky, and unmistakably Irish.”

The limited release goes on sale Tuesday, May 26th at 4pm (GMT), priced at £37 per bottle exclusively through the distillery website.

For Irish spirits enthusiasts and collectors alike, Ériu looks set to become one of the most talked-about small-batch poitín releases of the year.
