Micil Distillery Scoop Two ‘World’s Best’ at World Drinks Awards 2022

Micil Distillery, Ireland’s leading craft spirits producer, are delighted to announce that their new Micil Connemara Irish Cream has been named the Best Irish Cream in the World at the World Liqueur Awards 2022.

Taking home the outright prize after just 6 months since it's release is a resounding endorsement of Micil’s focus on products of outstanding quality.

Together with this, Micil Heritage Poitín has won Best Grain Spirit in the World in the unaged spirit category, a triumphant result for their most authentic poitín recipe. This follows on from January’s win of Best Contemporary Irish Gin for their classic Micil Irish Gin at the World Gin Awards 2022.

Micil Connemara Irish Cream

A west of Ireland take on an Irish classic, made using the finest Connemara poitín and the highest quality ingredients sourced as close to home as possible, and is produced to their grandmother’s original family recipe. It delivers superb creamy texture, sweet chocolate notes and a sprinkling of coffee and honey, all incredibly balanced by the soft, fruity spice of Irish poitín.

Micil Heritage Poitín

500ml 17%abv

RRP €55.

A celebration of the finest Connemara Poitín of the past. Made from 80% Irish Barley and 20% Irish Oats both malted and peated using Connemara Turf. Warm, sweet and fruity with balanced nutty character and gentle peat smoke throughout. Vibrant and aromatic with distinct texture. Commenting on the awards win Micil’s co-founder, Pádraic Ó Griallais said ‘We’re delighted to win these awards, it means a huge amount to us having our family’s poitín heritage at the core of these recipes and to be recognised by our peers in this way. We’ve received some tremendous feedback on Micil Irish Cream from our wholesalers, retailers and consumers since its release and it has also gained our first national listing with O’Briens Wines in Ireland. At a time when we are growing our team with numerous new roles going live in the coming weeks, these awards give us great confidence in the future of our Micil brand and we hope to see more and more people enjoying our products nationally and globally this year.’ Head Distiller Jimín Ó Griallais stated ‘We’re passionate about telling the real story of poitín through our products, it’s not a spirit to be scared of, it doesn’t have to be high-strength or made from potatoes. Our family is proof of that, producing poitín from 100% Irish Grains for over 170 years, using barley, oats and other grains, comparable to whiskey without the aging, that’s why we call it fuisce (pronounced fwishka) at home in Connemara. Taking our grandmothers Irish Cream recipe, which appears on our neck strap ‘as gaelige’ (in Irish) in our mother’s handwriting, and modernising it with our own classic Micil Irish Poitín was a project that we’ve taken incredible pride in. And our Heritage Poitín showcases true poitín tradition, Irish grains and Connemara peat showcasing the flavours and aromas of the poitín our family produced illicitly since 1848.’ Micil Distillery products are available throughout Ireland and Europe through www.micildistillery.com. And, through McCambridges of Galway, Joyces Supermarkets, The Celtic Whiskey Shop, Online at IrishMalts.com and through a wide array of Independent Off-licences in Ireland. Micil Irish Cream is available Nationwide through O’Briens Wines.
