Dingle Distillery release limited-edition 'Grianstad an Gheimhridh' Single Malt

Dingle Distillery have proudly revealed thrir highly anticipated Grianstad an Gheimhridh Single Malt Whiskey, the fifth release in a series of nine limited-edition whiskeys in it's Wheel of the Year series. This new release is now available at DingleDistillery.ie and across off-licenses and stores nationwide, available just in time for the festive period.

This limited release whiskey honours the ancient Celtic celebration of Grianstad an Gheimhridh, the winter solstice. Grianstad translates to 'the stopping of the sun', and Dingle Grianstad an Gheimhridh Single Malt is a celebration of a time of year that is all about the dark of night drawing in. The Winter solstice is known as the shortest day of the year.

Grianstad an Gheimhridh Single Malt Whiskey has matured in former Bourbon casks with a Tawny Port cask finish and bottled at 50.5% ABV. With 7,800 bottles set to be released, Irish whiskey enthusiasts will be in for a treat.

Elliot Hughes, Managing Director at Dingle Distillery, comments:

‘We raise a glass with pride as we release the fifth whiskey in our Wheel of the Year series, Grianstad an Gheimhridh, weaving tradition and taste. In honour of the Winter solstice, this limited-edition release is embedded in our culture and will be sought after from collectors and whiskey lovers alike.’

The Celtic Wheel of the Year is divided into eight periods and following suit the Wheel of the Year series from Dingle Distillery features eight editions, following the rhythm of the seasons, equinoxes, and solstices. There will also be an additional final release to mark Wren’s Day. While not part of the Celtic Wheel of the Year, its release is in recognition of the importance of Wren’s Day in Dingle culture. The Winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year with the least amount of daytime; however, it also indicates that brighter days are ahead. It occurs when the sun reaches its southernmost point in the sky, appearing at its lowest noon altitude. This astronomical event signals the official start of winter.
