Tesco Ireland is expanding its rapid delivery service, Whoosh, to customers in Ireland – giving even more shoppers the ability to order groceries and have them delivered in 45 minutes. Services in Cork will launch next week, with Galway and additional stores in Dublin already live.

Whether it’s forgotten toilet roll or a last-minute dinner upgrade, Whoosh is designed to keep households stocked up without the stress. Customers within a 4.5-kilometre radius of participating Tesco stores can order from a range of more than 3,000 products, including fresh fruit and vegetables, evening meals, everyday essentials like toilet roll, laundry capsules, butter, milk, and eggs, as well as selections from Tesco’s Finest range and alcohol.

New shopper insights reveal how Irish consumers are using Whoosh differently than traditional in-store or online shopping:

  • Ordering your last-minute night in: Tesco Finest Certified Irish Angus Ribeye Steak sees the biggest boost in popularity through Whoosh – perfect for spontaneous dinner plans, without having to leave the house.

  • Toilet Roll Tops the Charts: Toilet rolls are incredibly popular items with sales surpassing expectations – proving Whoosh is the go-to for forgotten essentials. (four standard rolls, if you’re wondering!)

  • Top up favourites: Chicken thigh fillets, breast fillets and mini fillets, kitchen roll, strawberries, milk and ripe bananas round out list of popular items shopped via Whoosh. While cheese, milk and fresh produce (strawberries, bananas, grapes, pink ladies, blueberries and easy peelers) lead the way for quick fix lunch choices.

  • Weekend Rush: Nearly 40% of Whoosh orders are placed between Friday and Sunday, with Sunday afternoons being the busiest time as shoppers stock up for the week ahead. Is that down to someone forgetting something in the main in-store shop?

The service is designed to offer speed and convenience for everything from last-minute meal ingredients to spontaneous dinner plans and more. Categories such as health, hygiene, and plant-based products play a smaller but growing role.

Commenting on the expansion, Sean Nolan, Online Director at Tesco Ireland, said: “With Tesco Whoosh now available across Dublin and Galway and soon launching in Cork, we’re expanding our market-leading online grocery service to bring rapid delivery to even more Irish customers. Whoosh complements our existing Grocery Home Shopping, Same Day Delivery and Click & Collect options – giving customers the flexibility to choose the service that best fits their day. Whether it’s a forgotten essential, a quick lunch, or a last-minute dinner plan, Whoosh helps customers stay topped up without the stress.”

Customers can order through the Tesco app or website, with deliveries fulfilled by Tesco’s rapid delivery partner, Deliveroo.  There’s no minimum spend, and delivery costs €3.99, with an additional €2 charge for baskets under €15.

Tesco Whoosh is now available to customers in Dublin who live within a 4.5km radius of Tesco Express stores in Cabinteely, Citywest, Cherrywood, Collins Avenue, Inchicore Express, Swords, Malahide, Shankill and Crumlin. These stores are in addition to Tesco Donnybrook, Spencer Dock, Newmarket Yards, Glasnevin, Two Oaks and Cookstown.

Having launched this week in Galway, the service is now available to customers within a 4.5km radius of Tesco Express stores in Doughiska, Ballinfoyle and Newcastle.

In Cork, Whoosh will launch on the 8th and 9th of September to customers within a 4.5km radius of Tesco Express stores in Dennehy’s Cross and St Finbarr’s.
