Launching this week: FUINSEOG - The Story of Hurley-Making.

FUINSEOG is the Irish word for ash tree. Paul Galvin’s high-summer menswear collection at Dunnes Stores examines the role of the ash tree in Irish sporting life and the native Irish craft of hurley-making.

Generations of hurley-makers once drove family businesses across Ireland, crafting hurley sticks for local club players and allowing the game to flourish within parishes and communities. Over time, clubs and counties developed distinct hurley designs, adding even more craft and identity to the tradition.

Today’s makers have evolved from the back-shed workshops of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, into fully equipped factories. They work with the finest ash, bamboo and composite materials using high-speed, high-tech machinery, yet still employ the slow craft, careful hands and skilled eye of their forefathers to keep this ancient craft alive.

Ash leaf and ash grain prints feature throughout the range, adding a distinctive touch to key styles such as the Fuinseog Crochet Short Sleeve Shirt in ecru (€30) and the SS Embroidered Shirt in teal (€30). The collection’s natural palette of neutrals and shades of green is complemented by deep navy and rust, inspired by the rich hues of Ireland’s native landscape where the Ash tree grows. These earthy tones and intricate prints weave layers of heritage and storytelling into the collection.

FUINSEOG is launching Thursday 17th April in selected stores and at dunnesstores.com. This collection sets the scene for Paul Galvin’s upcoming AW25 collection, IOMÁNAÍOCHT - the Irish word for hurling. Stay tuned for news and updates on IOMÁNAÍOCHT, coming this autumn.
