Flogas x Electric Picnic - The Power Behind the Stage

For the second year in a row, Flogas is powering the festival with renewable wind energy, this year sourced from Knockawarriga Wind Farm in Co. Limerick, helping to soundtrack the weekend for 80,000 festivalgoers.

STRADBALLY, CO. LAOIS: Set across 600 acres of fields and woodland, Electric Picnic is Ireland's biggest music and arts festival. A weekend when Irish culture turns the volume all the way up, with a lineup that will have tens of thousands of fans singing every word. This August, the electricity powering those performances comes straight from wind.

For the second year running, Flogas, part of DCC Energy plc, returns as Electric Picnic's Official Renewable Energy Partner, powering main performances with renewable electricity via the electricity grid. This year, the renewable electricity is sourced directly from the Knockawarriga Wind Farm in Co. Limerick, which is operated by Perigus Energy, and with which Flogas has a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA). Any balance of consumption not covered by this CPPA is backed by renewable electricity Guarantees of Origin (GOs). 

Attendees will experience the same brilliant music as always, with the bonus of a sustainable energy source behind the scenes, because the turbines that power Ireland's electricity grid will also power the biggest performances at Electric Picnic across the weekend, for a crowd of 80,000 attendees.

Electric Picnic, as Ireland’s largest music and arts festival is a unique mix of the best in Irish and International acts, live debates and interviews, comedy, spoken word and art installations offering shared cultural moments that thousands look forward to all year.

The Power Deck

This year's partnership between Flogas and Electric Picnic centres on the Flogas Power Deck, which will be powered by Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO). A diesel alternative, HVO is a low-emission renewable fuel made from waste materials like used cooking oil and plant matter.

This Flogas Power Deck is a raised viewing platform which gives Picnickers unrivalled sightlines of the headliners all weekend long. It’s the best view in the house. From here, attendees can soak up the atmosphere, catch a changing lineup of acts, and take in the full scale of the wind-powered performances from above.

Beyond the views, the Power Deck offers fun games, prizes and a resident DJ; there’s something for everyone between the main acts.
