Kabin Crew, the young Cork music collective behind the global viral hit ‘The Spark’, is back with a fresh mission: turning fruit, vegetables and healthy lunchboxes into its next big anthem.

The group has released an original track and music video, ‘Lidl Lunchbox Flex’, created to encourage primary school children across Ireland to become more curious and confident about fruit and vegetables. The song celebrates building a “good routine”, choosing “food that’s clean”, “watching what you munch, not the greasy kind of crunch”, and trying simple, enjoyable ways to prepare and eat fresh ingredients.

It also introduces children to practical food ideas, from making smoothies and wraps to filling a lunchbox with fruit, vegetables, and favourite snacks.

The accompanying music video was filmed at a Lidl store in Charleville, The Kabin Studio and Terence Mac Swiney Community College in Knocknaheeny, Cork and the eight-acre Lidl Farm in Newbridge, Co. Kildare.

The new release follows the extraordinary success of ‘The Spark’, created by Kabin Crew and Lisdoonvarna Crew. The track generated millions of views and attracted international attention and was named Irish Song of the Year at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize 2024. The Kabin Studio is a youth creative arts organisation based in Knocknaheeny, Cork City that uses music and creativity to build confidence, wellbeing and opportunity for young people.

Commenting on the new track, Garry McCarthy at The Kabin Crew Studio, said: “One of The Kabin Studio's core priorities is supporting the wellbeing of young people. We believe creativity plays a huge role in building confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging, but we also recognise how important physical activity and healthy eating are in helping young people feel their best. Over the past few months we've been running workshops that encourage young people to think more about the food they eat and how it can impact their energy, focus and overall wellbeing so when Lidl approached us about creating a song celebrating the benefits of fruit and vegetables, it felt like a really natural fit.

The young people had lots of fun developing the performances and ideas for the video too, and their creativity shines through every part of the project. We hope Lunchbox Flex encourages young people to see healthy food in a more positive, fun and inspiring way! “

The track was created as part of Lidl Foodies, a new free national education programme launched by Lidl Ireland that aims to help children aged four to seven develop positive relationships with fruit and vegetables through practical, curriculum-linked learning.

Backed by a €150,000 investment, Lidl Foodies aims to reach more than 30,000 pupils in its first year. Across four modules, children will be encouraged to taste fresh produce, grow their own food, prepare simple recipes and discover how food travels from farm to fork.

Commenting on the partnership, Eimear O Sullivan Corporate Affairs Director at Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland said: “Food is the fuel for everything we do, and children need the right kind of nourishment for both body and mind. Kabin Crew first caught our attention through their extraordinary creativity and ability to connect with young people, making them the perfect partner to bring Lidl Foodies to life. Through ‘Lidl Lunchbox Flex’ and the wider programme, we want to give children enjoyable, hands-on experiences with food and help them build curiosity and confidence around fruit andvegetables from an early age. We are incredibly proud of what Kabin Crew has created. We hope children and families across Ireland will sing along, try something new and join Kabin Crew in ‘letting loose on the vegetables and fruits’.”

Available free of charge to primary schools across Ireland, Lidl Foodies provides teachers with ready-to-use lesson plans, activity sheets, classroom displays, shopping lists and practical food safety and allergen guidance.

The programme is aligned with areas of the primary school curriculum, including Wellbeing and SPHE, and will also be available as a complete Irish-language programme for Gaelscoileanna.

To help bring the activities to life in the classroom, the first 150 teachers to register for the first module will receive a €100 Lidl gift card. Lidl Ireland will be giving away up to €30,000 worth of Lidl gift cards across the modules throughout the first year of the programme. Gift cards will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration for the Lidl Foodies programme opens on 15th September 2026. Teachers can sign up through National Schools Partnership.
