Teeling Whiskey, Ireland’s leading independent whiskey producer, proudly introduces the 7th Edition of its acclaimed Sommelier Selection Series — the Teeling Whiskey Sommelier Selection: Rioja Red Wine Cask Finish.

This highly anticipated release marks the first chapter in Teeling’s Spanish Series, celebrating the rich winemaking heritage of Rioja, Spain’s most famous wine region. Known for its expressive red wines that balance fruit, spice, and oak, Rioja provides the perfect cask influence for Teeling’s bold and characterful Small Batch Irish Whiskey.

A Fusion of Flavour and Craft

Crafted through Teeling’s pioneering approach to whiskey finishing, this expression begins with the brand’s award-winning Small Batch Irish Whiskey, a blend of grain and malt matured in ex-rum barrels. It is then further matured in carefully selected Rioja red wine casks, allowing the whiskey to absorb layers of vibrant red fruit, gentle spice, and elegant tannins.

The result is a beautifully complex whiskey, offering aromas of red berries, toasted oak, and soft vanilla on the nose, followed by flavours of dark fruit compote, cinnamon spice, and a smooth, warming finish. The Rioja cask influence adds a subtle dryness and depth, perfectly balancing the natural floral and fruity character of Teeling’s Small Batch.

Continuing the Sommelier Story

Since its inception, the Sommelier Selection Series has embodied Teeling’s mission to push the boundaries of Irish whiskey by collaborating with the world’s great wine regions. Each edition captures the essence of a celebrated terroir, exploring how wine cask maturation can transform and elevate Irish whiskey.

Previous editions have featured influences from France, Italy, and Portugal, with expressions finished in casks that once held Cabernet Sauvignon, Amarone, and Port. The new Rioja edition continues that journey of discovery — showcasing the shared artistry between winemaking and whiskey-making.
