Kathryn Thomas launches the Lidl Farm for the 2023 School Season

TV Presenter and radio broadcaster, Kathryn Thomas has launched the Lidl Farm - a free educational experience located at Lidl’s Regional Distribution Centre in Newbridge, County Kildare.

Lidl Ireland launched this new venture in October 2022, being the first retailer in Ireland to develop a free farm experience where school children can trace the farm to fork story, beginning with the soil.

Supported by Agri Aware and key supplier Meade Farm, Lidl has turned over 8.5 acres of land into a free education resource. The on-site education delivery is guided by the SESE curriculum to deliver an outdoor classroom experience. Students learn through a combination of hands-on activities and discussions led by Agri Aware's Education Officers.

Speaking about the Lidl Farm, Kathryn Thomas says, “I’m thrilled to be supporting Lidl on this amazing initiative. I was blown away that Lidl had created their very own farm, and not only that, are also offering children the opportunity to learn how to grow their very own crops – for free! I encourage schools to sign up, I know my little ones would be extremely happy to spend a morning or afternoon playing in the fresh air whilst learning about where their food comes from.

Each educational experience ends with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Lidl Regional Distribution Centre on the Lidl Farm train. This unique experience provides students with an insight into the journey of how everyday products make their way from the farm to the shelves of their local Lidl store.

School Tours at Lidl Farm run from April to June, and from September to October. To learn more and for schools to register an interest in visiting the Lidl Farm go to www.lidl.ie/thelidlfarm
