Fair Share - Support Fairtrade Fortnight by Shopping Aldi’s Range of Fairtrade Products

This year, Fairtrade Fortnight will take place from February 21st to March 6th. This yearly two-week initiative aims to raise awareness of the Fairtrade movement and how it positively empowers farmers and growers around the world.

More than ever, people are looking to shop ethically and sustainably. That means buying products from brands that reflect their own personal values and contribute to better working conditions for people around the world. As a retailer, Aldi is a long-standing supporter of the Fairtrade movement, proudly sourcing fairly traded products for the last number of years and offering them to customers at the best possible price. The partnership has generated an additional €1.1m Fairtrade premium payments since 2016 for those farmers who produce cocoa, coffee, tea, bananas and flowers for the Aldi Ireland business. To celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, Aldi has several ethically sourced products available in stores across Ireland.

Kick start your day with McGrath’s Fairtrade Reserve Tea €1.39/80 Pack. Grown and harvested in Kenya, it is the most popular Fairtrade tea in Ireland and makes a tea-licious cuppa.

Treat yourself to a guilt-free square of chocolate with Choceur Choco Changer Bar €1.99/150g. Responsibly sourced via Tony’s Open Chain, it is 100% slave-free, helping cocoa supply chains become more sustainable.

Say it with flowers! Head to Aldi stores to pick up a bright and vibrant Fairtrade Mixed Flower Bouquet €4.99. Two limited edition bouquets will be available across Fairtrade Fortnight: A Rose and Spray Carnation Mix and a Sunflower Mix.

Finally, pick up a bunch of Organic Fairtrade Bananas €1.59/6 pack, available across Aldi stores nationwide. Speaking about Aldi’s ongoing commitment to supporting Fairtrade Fortnight, Peter Gaynor, Executive Director of Fairtrade Ireland, said:

We appreciate the example Aldi Ireland are offering the Irish retail sector with their support for Fairtrade Fortnight again this year. Aldi sell about 75% of the total Fairtrade tea sold in Ireland with their McGrath’s tea and are the only retailer who have been consistently selling Fairtrade flowers in Ireland. We’d love to see the other retailers match these commitments.” See below for a full list of Fairtrade items available in Aldi as part of Fairtrade Fortnight: Organic Fairtrade Bananas - €1.59/6 Pack McGrath’s Fairtrade Reserve Tea - €1.39/80 Pack Choceur Choco Changer Bar - €1.99/150g Choose from Dark 70%, Milk Hazelnut or Milk Salted Caramel.
